[Abuja]–The arrival of President Muhammadu Buhari in Nigeria remaines uncertain as the medical checkup and tests conducted has shown that he needed a longer time to rest, thus, necessitating the extension of the vacation for another indefinite period.

This was disclosed in a four-paragraph statement made available to journalists by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina.

While he assured Nigerians that all was under control as there is no cause to worry, he mentioned that the President needs to stay longer than expected for medical reasons.

It should be remembered that President Buhari left the country for the United Kingdom on a 10-day medical vacation since January 19, 2017.

Adesina had, in a statement on the expiration of the 10 days, confirmed that the president would be extending his stay in the U.K. to “complete the test circle before returning.”

President Buhari was expected to resume from his vacation on Monday, February 6, 2017 but he wrote to the National Assembly informing it of his desire to extend his leave in order to receive the results of a series of tests recommended by his doctors.

Adesina added that the President acknowledges the prayers and good wishes of Nigerians across the country.

“President Muhammadu Buhari thanks millions of Nigerians who have been sending good wishes and praying for his health and well-being in mosques and churches throughout the country”, he said.

“President Buhari wishes to reassure Nigerians that there is no cause for worry…During his normal annual checkup, tests showed he needed a longer period of rest, necessitating the President staying longer than originally planned.”
