[Abuja]–The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh has revealed that the Federal Government is set to sell over 100 rice mills.
The Minister, who made this revelation to newsmen on Wednesday while receiving a team of Russian investors who visited him, added that the target will be achieved by the second quarter of 2018.
Speaking on the recent hike in the price of rice, the minister said that the increase in the price of the grain is as a result of high demand for the produce.
He added that the country is feeding more than 193 million citizens as well as 100 million others in the West and North of Africa.
To continue to feed this population, the minister also revealed that the Federal Government is set to produce seven millions tonnes of rice by 2018.
On rice milling, Ogbeh noted that the federal government has recently advertised more than 100 rice mills for sale and distribution to communities and farmers, adding that the terms of sales and distribution of the mills will be generous.
This according to him, would boost rice production, reduce the price of the produce and thus, boost food security in the country. Please Follow Us @ThePageNg
