[U.S]–White House counsellor to President Donald Trump and the first woman to successfully run a US presidential campaign, Kellyanne Conway, has stated that she does not identify as a feminist, despite the general assumptions.
While speaking with Republican commentator Mercedes Schlapp during the Conservative Political Action Conference at National Harbor in Maryland, she dissociated herself from the mainstream idea of feminist while also lauding Trump for his unbiased employment of women into his workforce.
“It’s difficult for me to call myself a feminist in a classic sense because it seems very anti-male, and it certainly is very pro-abortion, and I’m neither anti-male or [sic] pro-abortion.
So, there’s an individual feminism, if you will, that you make your own choices. I look at myself as a product of my choices, not a victim of my circumstances.”
She also berated many women’s act of envy towards other women in power.
“You know, this whole sisterhood, this whole ‘let’s go march for women’s rights’ and you know, just constantly talking about what women look like or what they wear or making fun of their choices of presuming that they’re not as powerful as the men around.
This presumptive negativity about women in power, I think, is very unfortunate.”
For Conway, it has been a rather stormy start in the White House, with controversies trailing her.
She particularly attracted public ire after endorsing Ivanka Trump’s clothing line on national television, a conduct which high-ranking officials such as herself are banned from doing.
According to Sean Spicer, the White House press secretary, she was being counseled on the ethics of public interaction as concerns her position.
Defending her boss against sexist accusations, she said, “ Trump is someone who is not fully understood for how compassionate and what a great boss he is to women.”Please Follow Us @ThePageNg
