[MTN]–MTN Nigeria has recently been experiencing a network downtime, a situation that has made it difficult for the network subscribers in Lagos, Abuja and other cities to get through to the network via data and voice connectivity.
The situation which Has made it difficult for subscribers to either make call or get faster data connections, has rendered them incommunicado for some days.
Subscribers who have complained bitterly about the situation, attributed the challenge to the ongoing xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa, saying that Nigerians might have made good their threats to vandalise MTN facilities in the country, in revenge for the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians.
Some, however, believed that MTN might have deliberately shutdown its operations in some suspected volatile areas of the country for fear of retaliation from Nigerians following the attacks against Nigerians in South Africa.
Reacting to the issue yesterday, MTN, through its PR and Protocol Manager, Mr. Funso Aina, dismissed the rumors of vandisation of its properties and allegations of deliberate shutdown of its network in some sections of the country.
He said that the situation is just a temporary downtime in some of the network areas which the site engineers are currently fixing.
He said ” we have taken immediate steps to notify impacted customers of the fault and to assure them of the restoration of full services very soon”.
Speaking on the specific time the network issues will be addressed, Aina said “we are confident that the issue will be resolved in no distant time and our subscribers will start enjoying full services again”.
