Onnoghen becomes new Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN)

[Abuja]–At the sitting of the Upper Legislative Chamber of the Senate on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, the Senate has approved the appointment of Walter Onnoghen as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria.

The approval came after he was screened by members of the House, who asked him questions on his plan to develop the judiciary.

The sitting which lasted for about 45 minutes was presided by the Speaker of the Senate, Bukola Saraki.

Present at the event was Ben Ayade, governor of Cross River state, and Ita Enag, adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on senate.

It should be noted that Onnoghen’s appointment was done by the acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, while President Muhammadu Buhari is on a medical leave in London.
