[Ibadan]–Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji on Saturday, March 4, 2017, conferred chieftaincy titles on the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and some other eminent personalities for their contributions to the development of Ibadan and Nigeria.
The Page reports that as part of the first coronation anniversary of the 41st Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, the Oba had deemed it fit to hounour some deserving personalities.
The event which took place at the Mapo Hall, exactly one year after the monarch was crowned saw the conferment of chieftainship titles on about 15 Nigerians.
Saraki who was absent due to another engagement in Abeokuta was honoured with the title Otun Ajagunna of Ibadanland, he was ably represented by his colleague, Senator Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi from Oyo south.
Senator Akanbi, was also honoured with the title Okanlomo of Ibadanland and his wife, Zhikrah Afolake Akanbi, as Yeye Okanlomo.
Sen. Bukar Ibrahim from Yobe was honoured with the title of Asaaju Baameto of Ibadanland; Hon Abiodun Awoleye from Ibadan North Federal Constituency was honoured with the title of Jagun Atunluse of Ibadanland, his wife, Dorcas, as Yeye Jagun Atunluse of Ibadanland.
Others include Dr. Azeez Adeduntan, Oyo State Commissioner for Health, Aare Basiro of Ibadanland; Dr Kase Lawal, as Otun Asiwaju of Ibadanland; Dr Owolabi Fakunmoju, Jagun Basorun of Ibadanland.
Alhaja Taofikat Abolaji Alaka was given the title Agbaakin Balogun Iyalode Parakoyi of Ibadanland; Otunba J.O Osusina, Agbaakin Basorun of Ibadanland and Mrs Joko Oni as Otun Iyalode Ajagunna of Ibadanland.
Alhaji Rasaq Mohammed as Otunba Basorun of Ibadanland and his wife, Alhaja Simbiatu Olanrewaju, Yeye Otun Basorun of Ibadanland.
Speaking at the event, Oba Adetunji gave thanks to God for the opportunity to celebrate his first year on the throne in good health.
The monarch appreciated his subjects, well-wishers and friends who had supported and assisted his kingship, urging them not to relent in other to move the ancient city to the desired height.
The Page gathered that the monarch will on Monday, March 6 confer more chieftaincy titles on some Nigerians in the second batch of the chieftainship ceremony.
The event was attended by members of the Olubadan-in-Council, Mrs Janet Adeyemo, wife of the Oyo State Deputy Governor and Fuji maestro, King Wasiu Ayinde.
The event was also graced by his highness, ‘Emperor’ Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi and two other Osun state monarchs.
