Federal Polytechnic Ede Shut as SSANIP,NASU Demand Payment of Entitlements

[Osun]–Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnic, and Non-Academic Staff Union, Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun-State  has  embarked on an indefinite strike over non-payment of their entitlement.

Activities at the institution on Monday paralysed following a peaceful protest to demonstrate the union grievance .

The Union converged in hundreds and vacates their various offices in the school to bewail the institution management  of her faliure to complied with the implementation of their reviewed scheme of service as directed by the National Board of Technical Education,NBTE in 2013.

Scores of the worker stormed the institution gate, armed with placards with several inscription  stated ; “Full implementation of 2013 scheme of service”, “Stop victimising our members”, ” Stop inconsistency in staff placement”, “Pay all arrears of promotion up to date.”

The Chairman of SSANIP of  the institution,Comrade Johnson Adekanola said the 2013 scheme of service is what all the Federal Polytechnic in southwest are using up till date.

He said “since 2013 the Federal government we row out a copy of the scheme of services that NBTE should implement the scheme and it has been giving to other colleagues in other federal institution but was denied by the Federal Polytechnic Ede.”

The chairman of NASU, Mr. George Akintola also allege the rector of the institution,Mr Patrick Hussain for not complying with the federal government order to implement the scheme of service in the institution.

He noted that” indefinite strike will commence now and we are nominating the monitoring unit to deal with anybody that does not comply will the strike action.”

“We are coordinating  a  monitoring team from the two groups,SSANIP and NASU where five members per group will be duly represented and if there is need to cohort any member,we will do the needy.”

The unions demand for an acting rector so as to see to the affairs of the management of the institution.

Also speaking,the National Secretary of SSANIP,Comrade Monday Jegede affirmed the request of the union.

He said the national body of the association is very much in support of the decision of the union in Federal Polytechnic Ede.

He said “Precisely I was here last week to settle the problem between the unions and the management of the institution but fortunately the management is not willing, saying that they did not have a rector and acting rector”.

But what they said they have is General-overseer. I told them that, the concept does not align with tertiary institutions, that no institution  does that.” He added”.

The acting Rector, Mr Robert Hussain told THE PAGE correspondent that the demand of the unions can’t be actualized because the Federal Government has not release fund  to that effect and the institution has no such money.
