[Ibadan]–The UI lecturer recently sacked for his refusal to apologise to academic colleagues he accused of aiding and abetting plagiarism at the university has further accused the VC of the University, Professor Idowu Olayinka as using his office to support his friends.

The sacked lecturer, Dr. Doyin Odebowale, made this revelation last Friday in a post he published on his Facebook timeline.

He wrote, “I have been advised by many professional colleagues on the quality of evidence I should release to the reading public. I accept this in good faith. I will allow utmost discretion to guide further posts.  Let me hasten to introduce another subaltern, an arrogant, unscrupulous and boastful character known as Tajudeen Akanji, a political professor of some opaque discipline known as Peace and Conflict Studies, a pretender to labour activism, state agent and ASUU Convener on Industrial and Labour Relations. He also adds the singular reputation of being the “producer” of UI Pure Water since the tenure/regime of Isaac Adewole as Vice Chancellor.”

He accused Tajudeen Akanji, a professor of peace and conflict studies of supervising a plagiarised Ph.D project of one Professor Ngwu of the Department of Adult Education, University of Nigeria, Nsukka but unfortunately, the original writer of the thesis was appointed as an external examiner and he quickly drew attention to that.

He further revealed that Akanji thereafter used his connection within the system to substitute the examiner “with a pliable and equally decadent interloper.” and the student who plagiarised the project was eventually convoked in 2010.

“The aggrieved scholar, whose work was plagiarised, wrote a petition to the Vice Chancellor, Isaac Adewole, and copied some external bodies. This was why the administration could not sweep the matter under the carpet. A committee was empaneled. This committee found the allegation to be true. Members were shocked that a so called supervisor failed to discover the fraud, even with the institutional checks such as periodic progress reports which must be signed by various persons. Akanji simply misled the university.”

After the committee reported, he added, the university was forced to withdraw the degree awarded to the student.

After an interview he granted on a popular radio where he accused some people of plagiarism in the university, he was later queried to apologise to some individuals but he refused.

“This is one of the persons whose names Idowu Olayinka listed that I must apologise to for “disparaging them” on ASUU matter! These individuals did not complain to my knowledge. I was not called upon to defend myself on my assertions on plagiarism.

Olayinka avoided that cleverly and guided his suborned committee to reach that curious but laughable decision.  I told him there and then that I would not apologise to Akanji and Onilude.”

“I insist they are most unworthy characters. Olayinka cannot use the office of the Vice Chancellor to support his friends.”, he added.

It will be recalled that Sahara Reporters has reported that Dr. Oladoyin Odebowale has instituted an action against the University in a suit urging the court to set aside a decision of the Governing Council of the university taken on December 1, 2016, to sack him.

THE PAGE had also gathered that the application has been served on the defendant.
