[Ibadan]–The University of Ibadan is set to elect a new Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics during a regular meeting of the university senate scheduled to hold today.
The election is meant to find a new occupant to the position of DVC Academic towards the expiration of the tenure of Professor (Mrs) Gbemisola Oke, the current DVC Academic.
Oke, who was the Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation of the institution, on December 16, 2014, became the 7th person and the second female to occupy the position replaced Professor Idowu Olayinka, now the Vice Chancellor of the institution.
In a document made available to News Nigeria and signed by the University Registrar, Mr. Olujimi Olukoya, it was revealed that in accordance to the University Act of 1993, the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka has forwarded the names of the Dean, Post Graduate School, Professor A. A. Aderinto of the Department of Sociology, Faculty of the Social Sciences and Professor O. Fagbola of the Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry to the Senate to contest for the enviable position.

Also, the 69-year-old institution for the very first time will be creating a new office of DVC, Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships, RISP and the names of Professor (Mrs) Olanike Kudirat Adeyemo of the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Professor Miracle O. Oyewola of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Technology have been sent for the election to hold today.

“Where a vacancy occurs in the post of Deputy Vice Chancellor, the Vice Chancellor shall forward to the senate a list of two candidates for each post of Deputy Vice Chancellor that is vacant. The Senate shall select for each vacant post one candidate from each list forward to it under sub-section (2) of this section and forward his name to council for confirmation” The Act states.
