[Ibadan]–The University of Ibadan Senate at its regular sitting on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 has elected Professors Adeyinka Aderinto and Professor Adenike Adeyemo as the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic and Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnership respectively.

After a stiff competition, Professor Adeyinka Aderinto of the Department of Sociology, Faculty of the Social Sciences emerged as the new DVC (Academic) ahead of his opponent, Professor O. Fagbola of the Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry.

It should be noted that Prof. Aderinto, who is the current Dean of the Postgraduate School was also the first Director of Special Duties which he served under the administration of former Vice- Chancellor, Professor Isaac Adewole, who is now the Minister of Health, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Also, the Senate has elected the first ever DVC, Research Innovation and Strategic Partnerships, Professor (Mrs) Olanike Kudirat Adeyemo of the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine ahead of her opponent, Professor Miracle O. Oyewola of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Technology.

Adeyemo, whose emergence makes her the fourth female DVC in the premier university, is the current Head of Department of Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine and she had served in many administrative capacities in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and the university at large.

While speaking with Mr. Olatunji Oladejo, the Director of Public Communication, on why the new DVC position was created, he explained that the VC, Prof. Olayinka, who is so much interested in Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnership, approached the Council for approval on the new position.

And It was so approved by the University Council, under the Chairmanship of Dr. Umar Musa Mustapha.

According to him, the new DVC’s are experienced, focused and determined leaders with distinction.

THE PAGE had reported yesterday that the university was set to elect new Deputy Vice Chancellors during a regular meeting of the university senate that held yesterday.
