PFI: FG TO PRODUCE A MILLION METRIC TONNES OF FERTILLIZER THIS YEAR

[On Twitter]–Federal Government has announced the production of a million metric tonnes of fertilizer in the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative by the end of this year.

This announcement was made yesterday on Twitter by the Federal Government while giving information on the transportation of phosphate to blending plants all across the nation.

“There are now 11 blending plants in operation across Nigeria; implementing Presidential Fertilizer Initiative(PFI).”, The handle posted.

The handle added that, “The PFI, one of outcomes of our strategic partnership with Morocco, will result in domestic production of 1m MT of NPK Fertilizer in 2017”.

“Prior to the PFI, Nigeria had 5 Blending plants working at 10% Prod capacity. Now there are 11 plants working round-the-clock (24/7).

“The smallest of those 11 Fertilizer blending plants now employs 600 workers; the largest, 1,200 workers. (Working in 3 shifts per day).

“The 1 million Metric Tonnes of NPK Fertilizer targeted by the PFI in 2017 will be produced in 5 cycles of 200,000 MT each.Cycle 1 ongoing.

“The PFI is a manifestation of President @MBuhari’s vision of a  #Nigeria that produces quality fertilizer for local consumption & export.

“OPPORTUNITY: The 1m MT of NPK Fertilizer that the PFI will produce this year will require 20 million sacks for packaging.” It concluded.

It will be recalled that in December, 2016, the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative took shape, with the signing of a strategic Agreement between Nigeria and Morocco.
