According to the BBC, the Turkish foreign minister was due to speak in the Dutch city of Rotterdam on Saturday in support of a referendum to give Mr Erdogan greater powers.

However, the rally was banned for security reasons.

Coupled with that it is the fact that Netherlands refused the Turkish foreign minister entry into their country by not allowing the plane to land.

As expected, the comment has amassed criticisms.

Responding to the remark, the Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte called it “way out of line”.
“It’s a crazy remark, of course,” he said.

Turkey has summoned the Dutch charge d’affaires to the foreign ministry in Ankara to explain the reason for the controversial refusal to allow the foreign minister to land.

Turkey’s family minister, Fatma Betul Satan Kaya, traveled by land to the Dutch city of Rotterdam, Turkey’s state-run Anadolu news agency said, birthing an ironic twist.

Minutes after her arrival, Dutch officials reportedly referred to Kaya as an undesirable alien who must be arrested.

Kaya, who was in Germany for separate meetings, as at the time of this report just arrived at the Netherlands, despite having her earlier meetings there cancelled.

President Erdogan reacted to the ban on the Turkish foreign minister by threatening to hinder Dutch flights.

“Ban our foreign minister from flying however much you like, but from now on, let’s see how your flights will land in Turkey,” he said.

Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu also warned Turkey would impose heavy sanctions if his visit were blocked.

Mr Rutte warned in a statement released in Dutch, that such threat of sanctions from the Turks only made “the search for a reasonable solution impossible”.

Earlier, the Dutch had announced that they would not allow the foreign minister entry.

However, he chose to defy them, stating that no one could stop him.

Currently, Kaya is reportedly in conversation with the Dutch authorities.
