[Ibadan]–Mr. Fisayo Soyombo, former editor at TheCable and a multi-award winning investigative journalist, Barr. Timi Olagunju, Director, Youth in Motion and a recipient of the President Barrack Obama Award and other influential thought leaders are set to storm the University of Ibadan, SU Events Centre for  the 2017 edition of the World Speech Day themed “Thoughts for a Better World”.

The World Speech Day is a global event for celebration of speeches and speech making. The day was set aside by the United States Senate to promote equality of opinions through speech and presentations.

In an exclusive chat with Rasheed Ridwon, the organizer and official licensee for the event in Ibadan, he said Ibadan is a home to many great orators and especially, the nation’s premier university that has been culturing excellent public speakers over the years and World Speech Day is just another platform for Ibadan to assert its significance in speech and speech making in Nigeria and the world.

“Ibadan is a home to many great orators, it also houses Nigeria’s Premier University. I wanted to put Ibadan on the global map of public speaking and the World Speech Day is the best platform to achieve that. We do say Ajisebi Oyo lari Oyo okin Un segbe baba eni kokan.” He said.

Speaking on the choice of speakers, he added, “Our Speakers are chosen from diverse background, we wanted to explore thoughts and ideas from various sectors of the economy. Our Speakers are people with great people with Amazing track records in each of their industry.”

“We hope we would have started a conversation on how we can have a better future, and beside we want to hear a lot of people speak as much as possible, so we do hope to discover a lot of ideas from unexpected voices (audience) on how we can have a better World.

“This Thoughts and ideas will be shared with the whole World, and we can kick start a better future.” He submitted.

Others expected at the event are Oladejo Owolabi, the Chairman, Impact Business Radio, Babajide Fadoju, Special Adviser to the Oyo State Governor on Media, Tobi Ayanwoye, a young Innovator, Emeka Ossai, 2016 Mandela Washington Fellow, Dr. M. O Rauf, Dr. Kamorudeen Aremu Salaudeen and Kunle Awotiku amongst a host of others.

It will be recalled that the first World Speech Day events took place in 2016 across 200 cities in 30 countries, including Athens, Palestine and New York.

Participants are expected to register before the event.
