OGUN STATE: MAPOLY UPGRADED TO A UNIVERSITY

  • AMOSUN TO ESTABLISH NEW POLYTECHNIC

[Ogun]–Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, has been upgraded to the Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology, Abeokuta, following the bill signed by the Ogun state governor,  Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

The bill which was passed by the Ogun State House of  Assembly on January 31, was signed into law during the State Executive Council meeting at the governor’s office in Abeokuta on Monday, March 14, 2017.

According to the Governor, the polytechnic which was named after late MKO Abiola, the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential poll, would operate a multi-campus system which is expected to boost science and technology in the state.

Also signed into law is the bill to establish the Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia, in the Yewa area of the state.

In an interview with newsmen after the occasion, the Speaker, Mr. Suraj Adekunbi, noted that the establishment of the two institutions would create more jobs in the state.

According to a report by NAN, the Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology will be the highest honour bestowed on the late MKO Abiola, the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential poll, rated worldwide as one of the freest and best elections in the history of the country.
