Fresh Crisis: 12 injured in Osun communal clash

[Osun]–It was not fewer than 12 people that sustained gunshot injury  and a market was razed down in a  communal clash between Ipetumodu and Asipa community in Osun State.

The two communities located in Ife North Local Government Area, Osun State were said to have started the fresh crisis on Wednesday.

The youths of  Asipa and Ipetumodu started fighting between themselves at Inter house sport competition in  Community High School, Ipetumodu which is not far from Asipa community.

It was gathered that some unidentified youths came down to Akinola Market on Thursday night to burn down  the commercial center of Ipetumodu community and firing several gunshot to the air to create tension at the scene.

One of the residents of Asipa community who doesn’t want to be named said many people were injured in the clash and some of them have been taken to the hospital for proper treatment.

When our correspondent contacted one of the Chiefs of Ipetumodu community, Chief Adedeji Asalu said ” the people of Asipa community are responsible for the clash that ensued in our community starting from the school riot and the community clash that caused us to lose our commercial market.

“Nine people from our community were shot by them(Asipa community) and this is not their first time of attacking us, we have seen several of it.”, He concluded.

Also, when the Chief of Asipa community, Chief Julius Ogerinde was contacted on phone on Friday about the alleged crisis caused by the community, he  said, “The people of Ipetumodu community are always found of concocting lies against us.”

“They are grieved because of the White Paper issued by the State Government on a land dispute favoured us”.

” They only used the avenue of the Inter house Sport competition to perpetrate their grievance and three of our people were shot”.

When the Police Public Relation Officer,Osun sate, Mrs. Folashade Odoro was contacted she confirmed the clash and said peace as been established by the police officers in the community.

Also the Osun state PRO of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp, Mr Babawale Afolabi confirmed the incident.
