[Abuja]–The Nigerian Senate has declared that it is ready to combat the series of diseases spreading round the country by passing any request which would contribute to the development of a better healthcare.

The Senate made this known during her plenary session today, while addressing the issue of Meningitis outbreak, which has been reported to have killed over 282 persons.

Also in a tweet through the official account of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, he said that with the increasing number of disease outbreaks, the Senate will use its legislative powers to promote good healthcare for Nigerians.

“With Lassa Fever + Cholera + #Meningitis outbreaks, @NGRSenate is prepared to pass any supplemental appropriations requests for healthcare”, he tweeted.

It should be remembered that THE PAGE had earlier reported the Federal Minister of Health, Professor Issac Adewole, to have said that Meningitis is curable disease and the treatment is free across Nigeria, as he added that the Ministry of Health is working towards ensuring that Meningitis C is under control, as the aim of the Ministry is to strengthen systems and states’ capacity to manage/prevent outbreaks.
