1500 to participate in Ibadan city marathon

[Ibadan]–The Ibadan City Marathon organisers, Splash FM, has announced that more than 1,500 participants have registered for this year’s edition of the annual 42 kilometre marathon race.

The event which enters its ninth edition, will take off on Sunday, April 9, 2017 from the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, formerly Liberty Stadium, Oke Ado, Ibadan.

The 42km annual Marathon race, will start at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium and will take athletes through the following areas of the state; High Court road, Mobile/Town Planning, Akinyemi, Iyaganku, Aleshionloye, Eleyele, Sango, UI, Ojoo, Iwo road, Gate, Molete and Challenge before returning to Stadium.

The newly posted zonal coordinator for the radio station, Mr. Yemi Usikaye, who doubles as the organiser of the event, said security and other aspects of the marathon will be improved upon.

Usikaye, who addressed newsmen in Ibadan, noted that this year’s marathon would be a special one as lots of side attractions have been packaged into the programme to add glamour to the annual event.

Meanwhile, the federal ministry of youth and sports has pledged an improved packaged for participating athletes and officials.

The ministry assured it will do more to secure the lives of athletes at the competition while medical personnel will be on ground to provide necessary assistance.
