Buhari appoints Ayo Banjo, others on boards for education agencies

[Abuja]–President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the reconstitution of the boards of 19 parastatal agencies under the Federal Ministry of Education.

According to News Agency, the presidency in making the appointments took into cognizance of the provisions of the respective legislation with respect to composition, competence, credibility, integrity, federal character and geo-political spread.

In a release made available by the Director of Press in the Ministry of Education, Mr. C. P Ihuoma, it was stated that Prof. Ayo Banjo has been appointed as the new board chairman for National Universities commission (NUC) and Chief Emeka Nwajiuba for the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).

Also, the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration has Dr. Ekaete Obon Okon as the new chairman; Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has Dr. Mahmud Mohammed; National Library of Nigeria (NLN) has Prof. Zainab Alkali and National Examination Council (NECO) has Dr. Abubakar Saddiq.

Others are National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education (NMEC) to be chaired by Dr. Gidado Bello Akko; National Commission for Nomadic Education (NCNE) to be chaired by Prof. Gidado Tahir; National Business and Technical Education Board (NABTEB) to be chaired by Prof. Leonard Karshima Shilgba; Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) to be chaired by Prof. Adamu Baikie; and National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) to be chaired by Alh. Maigari Dingyadi.

National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) has Sen. Mallam Kaka Yale; National Mathematical Centre (NMC) has  Prof. Buba Bajoga; Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has Dr. Emmanuel Ndukwe; National Institute of Nigerian Languages (NINLAN) has Chief N. N Nnabuchi; Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) has Chief Paul Unongo; and Nigerian French Language Village (NFLV) has Prof. Saliba Mukoro.

The remaining are National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) which has Prof. Modupe Adelabu as the new chairman and Nigerian Arabic Language Village (NALV) to be chaired by Prof. O Oladusi

Members of the board will run for a period of four years in the first instance.

The Boards, consisting of the Chairmen and Members, will be inaugurated on a date to be announced soon.
