Violence: Kano pillars fans react to home defeat

[Kano]–The Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) on Sunday witnessed a gruesome incidence after supporters and fans of Kano Pillars resorted to violence following their defeat.

At the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano Pillars suffered their first home defeat of the season following a 0-1 loss to Akwa United.

Christian Pyagbara scored the only goal of the game in the 19th minute.

Kano fans resorted to violence after the match, invading the pitch and chasing the match officials off with dangerous objects.

Akwa United players and officials were also not spared as they had to hide in the dressing home under heavy police protection.

Akwa United coach, Effiong Moses (MON), who was part of the Nigerian Male Senior National team that won the Nations Cup title for this country in 1980 was serious injured.

Cry from various quarters have called for a serious sanction on Kano pillars, including banishment to a neutral ground.

It should be recalled that many of the NPFL coach had complained of the extreme difficulties in winning an away game.

Clubs have been reported to put in place some extreme measures, making it difficult for visiting teams to win.

The incidence at the Sani Abacha stadium makes the second of its kind in the 2016/17 season following the beating of a Shooting Stars player after the latter’s home defeat against.
