CBN board to get new non-executives directors

[Abuja]–President Muhammadu Buhari has forwarded the names of five nominees to the Senate for confirmation as non-executive directors of the board of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, on Wednesday.

According to Femi Adeshina, the development was in  accordance with Sections 6 (1) (d) and 10 (1) and (2) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2007.

He added that the nominees were picked from five geopolitical zones of the country.

“President Muhammadu Buhari, Wednesday, forwarded the list of his nominees to the Senate for confirmation as Non-Executive Directors of the Board of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

“The letter to the Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, contained the following as the nominees and their geopolitical zones: Prof. Ummu Ahmed Jalingo – North East; Prof. Justitia Odinakachukwu Nnabuko – South East; Prof. Mike I. Obadan – South South; Dr. Abdu Abubakar – North West and Adeola Adetunji – South West”, the statement reads.

President Muhammadu Buhari has also the through his twitter account, @Mbuhari, confirmed the development.

“In line w/ @cenbank Act 2007, I have forwarded a list of nominees to @NGRSenate for confirmation as Non-Executive Directors of the CBN Board

“The nominees are as follows: 1. Prof Ummu Ahmed Jalingo (NE) 2. Prof Justitia Odinakachukwu Nnabuko (SE) 3. Professor Mike I. Obadan (SS) 4. Dr. Abdu Abubakar (NW) 5. Adeola Adetunji (SW)”, he tweeted.
