[Plateau]–The University of Jos Student Union Government (SUG) earlier dissolved has been reinstated.

The union which was dissolved on the grounds of protesting against hike in school fees, convening students meeting without approval from the Directorate of Students Affairs, Campus Voice reports.

Other reasons include externalising an internal issue with the normal procedure, threatening law abiding students and maligning principal officers of the university.

The Governing Council of the University has however directed that the dissolved Students’ Union Government of the University be reinstated.

This, the council said is subject to the condition that each member of the dissolved SUG writes a letter of apology to the University Management for tarnishing the image of the University in the public domain, that each dissolved SUG member pledges to be of good behaviour and to maintain good discipline and that they do not introduce any discussion on the approved new school charges of Forty-Five Thousand Naira (N45,000).

The council also ordered the immediate implementation of the Federal Government approved school charges of Forty-Five Thousand Naira (N45,000) for all Federal Universities.

The council directed the University Management to implement the payment across all levels of studentship for undergraduates in the University.

The decision came as a resolution from its 11th Regular Meeting where extensive deliberation on issues surrounding the implementation of school charges as directed by the Federal Government were made after meeting with Exco members of the Unijos Branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The council further enjoined Management and Unions of the University to work harmoniously through constant interaction for the growth and development of the institution.

It should be recalled that the students under its union threaten to boycott lecture and subsequently protested against sudden fee hike from N27, 400 to N45, 000.

This consequently led to the dissolution of the Students’ Union Government and the inauguration of a caretaker committee.
