[Ibadan]–Chief Labake Lawal, the sacked Iyaloja of Ibadan has dragged the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, the Olubadan-in-Council and Chief Iswat Abiola Ameringun, the new Iyaloja, to court for stripping her of her title.

In the suit, filed at an high court in the state, the sacked Iyaloja is seeking a declaration that appointment and installation of Ameringun as the new Iyaloja of Ibadan by the Olubadan and the council on March 20 as illegal.

According to her, the appointment and installation was not only wrong, but also violates her rights to natural justice.

She urged the court to declare her opponent’s appointment null and void and of no legal effect.

Meanwhile, some high chiefs have accused the monarch of unilaterally installing a new Iyaloja of Ibadanland as well creating a new title of Mayegun of Ibadanland which was conferred on a former Secretary to the State Government in Oyo State, Chief Olayiwola Olakojo, which they said is alien to the traditional history of the city.

In an earlier statement made by the Olubadan and reported by THE PAGE, he had made it clear that the Olubadan and the council is the prescribed and appointing authority on different categories of chiefs in Ibadanland, including Iyaloja and Babaloja and that new appointment had been done with necessary consultation by the council.

However, two most senior members of the Olubadan-in-Council, High Chiefs Lekan Balogun and Owolabi Olakulehin, Otun Olubadan and Balogun of Ibadanland, in a jointly released press statement  on Monday in Ibadan, described the claim as completely false and misleading.

The duo further claimed that the appointment of the new Iyaloja and the new title of Mayegun were unilaterally done without any recourse to the traditional council, who it claims is not aware of the development.
