[Osun]–The Coroner Inquest set to inquire the death of Senator Isiaka Adeleke had on Tuesday threatened to issue bench warrant against the Divisional Police Officer of Dugbe Police station, Osogbo and the Officer-In-Charge of Homicide for shunning the sitting and refusal to testify.
The Coroner, Chief Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara had earlier order for the summon of the Commissioner of Police which a representative was present on 10th, May 2017 before the case was adjourned to 15th May 2017.
However, their was no representative from the side of commissioner of Police during the sitting of the court on Monday as the court took five witnesses; CMD Biket hospital, Dr. Adebisi Adenle, Osun West Senatorial Chairman, Hon. Amonbi Akintola, Executive Secretary of Ede south, Hon. Johnson Ojo, Osun State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Titilaoye Tomori and the CMD LAUTECH hospital, Prof. Akeem Lasisi to testify.
During the testimony of the five witness several name were mentioned which Mr. Olusegun Ayilara ordered for their summon after he adjourned the inquiry till 16th May 2017. Part of people who were freshly summoned were Lasun Olaniyi of Iwo community, Lukuman a former strip, Engrn. Oni, Alfred Aderibigbe, DPO of Dugbe Police Station and OC Homicide.
The Chief Medical Director, Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH), Prof. Akeem Lasisi had testified on monday that the empty ampoules of injections brought by the family member base on his request to know the medical history of the deceased.
He said “The DPO of Dugbe Police Station, OC Homicide and the pathologist have in their care the empty ampoules of injection administered to Late Senator Isiaka Adeleke and they took pictures of them”
Prof. Akeem Lasis also told the court that the DPO, OC Homicide were with the pathologist when autopsy was carried on the deceased.
The OC legal of Osogbo Police command, Mr. Abass Aruna who is representing the Commissioner of Police informed the court that the CP is not around because he was on official assignment.
He said “we are not aware that the coroner had start sitting because we were on official assignment in Abuja and we came on Sunday, we are not aware that the court had been sitting and now that we are aware we assured the court that tomorrow the officer concern must come to testify to what they know as regards the issue we are being called upon”.
Mr Olusegun Ayilara while responding to the OC legal, said ” The OC homicide and DPO are expected tomorrow, they need to come and I want to say this that nobody is on trail here; this is not a criminal proceeding.I am not going to stop anybody from going back to his house and I won’t force anybody to say what he doesn’t want to say”
“All we need from police officers who were there when the autopsy was carried out; the DPO of Dugbe police Station and OC Homicide was there”
“By the virtue of the coroner’s law I need the police officer to be able to explain to me that they identify the corps, that what I need from them. I don’t even need your forensic man. We have a pathologist from LAUTECH that will be enough for us, I don’t need the result from your own side because I know you will prefer to hand it over to the Directorate of Public Prosecution.
“If they don’t come I will assume that you are frustrating us because we are constrained and we have limited time of three weeks and this is the second week, we want to take all evidence by the end of this week so that I can use the last week to put things together. I implore you(O C legal) to inform the CP.
“We issued the summon yesterday and they have 48hours to answer, that is why I will fix tomorrow for them.
“Mr. Aruna if the necessary parties are here tomorrow and if they are not here we will issue bench warrant against them.
