[Osun]–Osun State chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Soji Adagunodo has alleged the All Progressives Congress (APC) of pressuring the Independent National Electoral Commission to postpone the fixed date of Osun west senatorial election set to hold on 8th, July, 2017.

The chairman of the party, Mr Soji Adagunodo  during press conference at the party’s Secretariat in Osogbo on Tuesday revealed that APC is acting undemocratic by some of their plans towards the election.

He stated that, “the party is appealing to the leadership of INEC to look into their system we are not accusing them but we are accusing corrupt staffs who wants to  collude with the ruling party to frustrate and truncate the will of the people during election.

“We as a party, we have absolute confidence in INEC and I know that they will conduct free and fair election.

“In the stakeholders meeting we had with INEC in this State we suggested that the election should hold on 22nd of July but out of 24  political party that attended that meeting 22 agreed that it should hold on 22nd of July with exception of APC and one other party that suggested that the election should hold on the 8th. I now wonder why INEC insisted that the election will hold on the 8th of July, 2017.

“The independent National Electoral Commission has been under immense pressure by the APC Leadership to shift the date of the forthcoming by-election for three weeks. We hereby advice the INEC to refuse this request as doing so will compromise its integrity and cast a great doubt on its Independence as an electoral umpire.

“if the request of APC to postpone the election is granted by INEC we have a sketch on how to approach the matter. We stake the integrity of INEC on this matter.

“We heard that the election will be rigged but we are three steps ahead of them and make it impossible for them to rig. We have alerted all agencies of government to thwart all plans of rigging  and we shall keep on informing all the relevance agencies that will take care of rigging and we have informed all the 10 local governments and they are determine to ensure that rigging and manipulation is impossible.

“We also want to bring it to the notice that APC plans to compromise certain officials of INEC to supply inadequate number of ballot papers to many polling units identified as PDP strongholds and divert  to wrong location in order to delay commencement of voting.

“The plots will spell doom for our democratic experience and negate the culture of free and fair polls which the PDP led Federal Government instituted and sustained,” he added.
