[US]–A week ago, Professor Toyin Omoyeni Falola a Nigerian historian and professor of African Studies wedded his daughter,Toyin Falola, Jnr to Joseph Friesen in a grand wedding ceremony celebrated in San Francisco, California in the United States.
Falola, who is currently the Jacob and Frances Sanger Mossiker Chair in the Humanities at the University of Texas at Austin, poured out his heart after the ceremony in a post sent to his friends and students:
“Enjoyable moment last weekend as I gave my daughter, the dermatologist, hands in marriage….
“Tears of joy and success flowed.
“Asked about my secret, all what I said:
“Always pray for other people’s children. As you pray for them, God will bless yours. Wish other people well. The percentage of your wishes is usually what returns to you. Never curse other people’s children, as those curses will end up afflicting you and you and your children. If people hate you, accept it, but never hate them back. Hate destroys the immune system and their bodies become afflicted by diseases and emotional sadness.
“Pray for wisdom, as it is the small decisions that we take that frame our lives. Don’t focus your life on career resume, as in building a long CV, but on character resume, as in working for others. No ideal is higher than working for others—none. Any one who tells that the basis of his happiness is promotion from Assistant to Associate and then to Full is truly a sad person. The basis of happiness is in character resume—how do you relate to people, whose lives do you touch, whom do you bring up? And don’t worry where money will come from—Alas! It never comes from career resume but from character resume! Checks came from sources that one does not expect, but they are not given to me because of my long CV!!!
“Accept forces higher than you.
“The rest is destiny!”
