Man arraigned over N1.074m alleged fraud in Osun

[Osun]–A 35 year old man, Bamigbade Adedokun has been arraigned before Osun State magistrate court sitting in Osogbo, the State capital over alleged fraud of one million and seventy four thousand.

Police arraigned Adedokun on Friday before Chief Magistrate A. A Ayeni on a seven count charge bearing on conspiracy, felony, fraud and theft.

The prosecutor Inspector Olusegun Elisha told the court that the accused and others at large conspired to commit felony to wit obtained money under false pretence sometimes in the month of May and July at No. 3 zone 4 Rinsayo Estate in Osogbo.

Briefing the court, Inspector Elisha explained that the accused fraudulently obtained a sum of one million and seventy four thousand from the Complainant, Mrs Salako Helen under false pretence of supplying her a Toyota Corolla car.

He explained further that the accused and others at large on the same day and time obtained the sum of twenty two thousand ( 22000) from the Complainant with pretence of supplying her one bag of Rice which was false.

In narrating the case, Elisha said the accused also obtained a sum of 20,000 from the Complainant. He said the accused promised the Complainant to use the 20,000 as transport fee to fast track the supply of the Toyota Corolla and the bag of Rice.

Elisha submitted that the offense committed by the accused contravene section 516, section 419 (a) (b) and punishable under section 390 (9) of the criminal code cap 34 volume 11.laws of Osun State 2002.

The accused pleaded not guilty to all the seven-count charge preferred against him by the police.

The defense counsel, Mrs Adeyinka Dada applied for the bail of the accused in the most liberal and affordable terms. She assured the court that her Client will not jump bail if granted bail.

The prosecutor opposed the bail application made by the defence counsel, he said the accused will jump bail if bail is granted.

He explained that the accused was granted bail at the police station on September 21. 2017 and accused was told to reports back to the station so as to get the others at large.
He added that the accused persons has packed all his belonging trying to abscond to another town which led to his arrest on 28 of this month.

The magistrate, Chief Ashiru Ayeni in his ruling turned down the application made by prosecutor and admitted the accused bail in sum of 500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He thereby adjourned the case November 11, 2017 for hearing.
