[Kano]–Members of the National Union of Campus Journalists across campuses are ready to be in Bayero University, Kano for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) aimed at putting to shape the standard of campus journalism across the country.
The much anticipated event of the year with an expectation of over 500 delegates which has been scheduled to hold between Friday 10 to Sunday 12 November, 2017 is expected to look into the successes and challenges of the current dispensation of the National body as well as the chapters across the country.
“It is a gathering where campus journalism stakeholders submit report of activities from different campuses will be exchanged, get criticized with feasible resolutions and fine-tuned to have a better platform for practicing journalism with ethics and equal standards across the country. This is also the avenue to inaugurate new chapters of NUCJ,” Aisha Shittu, National organizing committee chairperson said when she was asked about the main aim of the Annual general meeting.
“it will also a feature a panel session where mainstream journalists within and around Kano have been invited to discuss the role of journalists in nation building; how journalism is a service to humanity and how journalists must protect themselves from threat.
“As at now, I can say Al-Qalam University, University of Ibadan, Crawford University, Usman Dan Fodio University, and about 10 others have submitted their reports. Everyone should submit their reports on time,” she pleaded with all chapters to ensure that their reports are submitted to her office before the opening day of the AGM.
The AGM is one of the penultimate event of any dispensation bringing the successes challenges of such administrative year before the table of the stakeholders and suggest ways it can be better in the next administration year.
At the AGM, award categories will be given at the at the convention when the current dispensation will be handing over is unveiled to the public as well as inaugurating the electoral committee and the venue for the next convention.
The national organizing committee chairperson who doubles as the vice president of NUCJ Nigeria has said the planning of the event though tasky but everything is now ‘falling in place’ assuring members of a good welfare package for them.
“The annual general meeting has been postponed twice not because of the President absence but to ensure that the proper welfare arrangement of members,” she said.
Corroborating her point is the chairperson of the local organizing team, Justina Elechi Felix who said BUK is very much ready to host the event.
She said, “Preparations are ongoing and we are earnestly anticipating the arrival of NUCJ members from different campuses in Nigeria. We pray for safe journey to and fro to Kano.”
Recall that the current national union was revived and relaunched at the National Campus Journalist Workshop organised and hosted by the Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan in 2016.Please Follow Us @ThePageNg
